OBI CUP - Berlin
A team mostly from Notts represented Great Britain in Berlin at the beginning of March. The team was Andrew Smith, Reece Pearson and Sam Oldham plus Nathan Jones from Dynamo (in Southampton). Nathan had stepped in at the last minute to replace Sam Hunter who was injured and so wasn't able to compete. The competition requirements were that there had to be a gymnast born in 1988 or 89 and Sam is the only gymnast in our club in that age group - and that gymnast also had to compete on all the pieces with their scores counting towards the team total. Unfortunately Nathan is not anywhere near the level that Sam is but without him the team would not have been able to compete at all so we are very grateful that he was able to step in.
The team came 9th overall (out of 20), which was a pretty good result in the circumstances. Our boys did very well, with Reece finishing 1st overall in the U14 section. However, gymnasts were only allowed to compete on 3 pieces each. Sam did floor, rings and vault and came 2nd on each in the U14 age group. Andy did pommels, P bars and high bar and came 3rd on pommels in the U16 age group.
